1. MTSS
Multi-Tiered System of Support is a strategy designed to help different students that are at different levels academically. The bottom 80% of the pyramid is the majority of students who have minimal behavioral or at-risk issues that need to be addressed by the teacher. The middle 15% of the students are the students that have at-risk behaviors that need to be addressed by the teacher. Finally, the top 5% of the pyramid are the students with high-risk behaviors that need extreme attention from the teacher and often required additional school supports or aids. The strategy requires teacher to go through the four stages of: 1. Study, 2. Act, 3. Plan, and 4. Do. This cycle is repeated over and over. Though this cycle should be used for all students, it is especially effective for students with higher needs. (Averill, 2011) |

3. Preferential Seating
Betsy Wiegle is a fellow teacher who justifies including seating in the classroom. Wiegle and I both agree that all students should be working on the same work despite their learning needs. In this way the student does not feel isolated or specifically targeted for something the cannot control. Additionally, this allows students with extra needs to be help at the same standards as their peers which will help them in their learning process. |
