2. Communication
Communication is EVERYTHING. Knowing how to communicate efficiently and properly with a variety of audiences is an essential key to life success. As an educator, it is my duty to properly prepare my students to communicate with a variety of people in different settings. Communication and participation will play a major role in my classroom and I will emphasize the importance of communication in my daily lesson plans. Students will be expected to communicate in both verbal and written formats. In the beginning of the year I will gauge each of my students level of current communication so that I may plan accordingly. At the end of this year, my students will be one step close to being efficient communicators. |
4. Collaboration
My classroom is arranged in a way that four desks are connected, creating daily groups of four students. Each day students will be asked to communicate, work with, or share with their table group members. Additionally, throughout the course of the year students will be required to work in table groups for a group project. It is up to the students to collaborate and complete the assigned task. Collaboration is a key skill that will inevitably be used in a students future, regardless of what career path they choose to go down. I expect students to have both successful collaboration and failed collaboration. This is all part of the learning process. If students fail, they will only learn from it, and learning is something I will always encourage. |
6. Take a Meta Moment
This strategy stems off of the R.U.L.E.R. strategy above. In recognizing different emotions, students should examine the different stages of an emotional process. The stages include: 1. Something happens, 2. Sense the initial emotion, 3. Stop before you act, 4. Visualize yourself at your best, 5. Strategize your best actions, 6. Succeed in your wise choices. This process will help students to react slowly and think before they act. Having control over ones emotions is an essential life skill. (Brackett, 2011) |
